Local rising stars TJ and Maya Mayeshiro bring their sibling act to the Pacific Edge Magazine Business Achievement Awards gala.
The pair grew up in Manoa Valley, TJ serving as an eager pupil to renowned ukulele experts Bruce Shimabukuro and Brian Eberly. In his early teens, TJ won the first annual Aloha Tower Ukulele Contest and the Dukes Ukes Ukulele Contest. The 20-year-old performer now teaches ukulele lessons at Iolani School and performs biweekly with band Heart & Soul at the Disney Aulani resort.
TJ’s sister Maya joined him in performing publicly at the tender age of eight, falling under the tutelage of Shimabukuro and her brother. Now a freshman at Roosevelt High School, Maia’s performance repertoire includes events ranging from Ala Moana Center and Hawaii Theatre performances to a special set for the Consul General of Japan.
The duo represent instrument producer and performing artist hub KoAloha Ukulele.
