Alex Tiller, CEO of Sunetric and winner of the 2012 Pacific Edge Magazine Executive of the Year Award is a very busy professional. He took a few moments to speak with us about receiving his award, happenings at Sunetric and threw in a little bit of advice…
You were awarded the 2012 Pacific Edge Magazine Business Executive of the Year Award. What impact has your award had on your business?
It was truly a great honor to receive such an award. Being named Pacific Edge Magazine’s 2012 Business Executive of the Year really elevated people’s awareness of the amazing work that’s being done at Sunetric. It provided us with the opportunity to showcase our company’s achievements and network with Hawaii’s most innovative minds in business.
Since receiving the award last year, what are some of the new initiatives Sunetric is currently undertaking?
We just launched a new national company called Autowatts that helps electric vehicle (EV) buyers add a solar system to their purchase. We think this will change the way Americans drive and fuel their personal transportation. It will save the average American family a fortune and make our country stronger, more sustainable, and cleaner.
What do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, growing up poor.
(Like many entrepreneurs, Alex Tiller had a humble beginning, but he did not allow that to stop him. He went on to graduate from Northeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and attended their executive training program. He proceeded to serve as a private business consultant, then founded and launched an animation and 3D visualization company. Currently, he is CEO of Sunetric where he defines and implements the company’s strategic goals and objectives.)
What is one piece of advice you would give young professionals?
I’ve never seen anyone achieve anything that qualifies as “great” without taking considerable risk. Don’t be afraid of failing. Failing is part of the process of success.
What is your favorite part of being Sunetric’s CEO? What drives you “to do what you do”?
I really enjoy getting to work with the outstanding staff at Sunetric. I am constantly blown away by their daily dedication to our customers, professionalism and desire to make Hawaii and the world a better place. I have never worked with a better group of people in my life. I am honored to even be associated with them — let alone lead them.
